8-week Programs

We offer two 8-week summer programs, one with an emphasis on language acquisition, the other with an emphasis on contemporary Russian history and culture.
 
PROGRAM 1: INTENSIVE RUSSIAN + RUSSIAN HISTORY
 
This 8-week program offers an Intensive Russian Language class + a course on Russian History
 

INTENSIVE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE CLASSES (8 weeks)

6 US credits

Russian language classes are offered at 6 different levels:

Beginners

Elementary

Pre-Intermediate

Intermediate

Upper-Intermediate

Advanced

Russian language classes meet Mon-Fri, 9:30am – 12:20pm 

Each level is designed to meet ACTFL (American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages) guidelines.

RUSSIA TODAY (3   US credits) in ENGLISH

Topics

Current issues:  The social, political and economical situation in Russia.

1. Russia as a World Civilization.

2. The Political System in Russia (political parties, government, etc.).

3-4. The Population of Russia: demographic survey. Russia and the entire World: comparative analysis of the basic social and demographic problems. Demographic structures and their dynamics. Breakdown of the population. Regional peculiarities in reproduction of the population. Employment and unemployment. Employment migration. Brain drain. Living standard at transition period.

5. Meeting with the deputy director at the Mayor’s office. The Problems of a sustainable Moscow. The secrets of Moscow’s wealth.

6-7. Economy of Russia: patterns of development.

8. Industry in Russia. Visit to Red October Chocolate factory. 

 

 
PROGRAM 2: RUSSIAN MODERN HISTORY, RUSSIAN FOREIGN POLICY, AND RUSSIAN LANGUAGE
 
This 8-week program offers two courses taught in English: Russia today and Russian and the West as well as an Intensive Russian course
 

RUSSIA TODAY (3 US credits)

Topics

8.      The Prospects of Russian Foreign Policy
